Awareness cum Animal Health Camp organized under Farmer’s FIRST Project.

ICAR Research Complex for NEH region, Umiam, Meghalaya organized Awareness programme on ‘Deworming and Vaccination in livestock and poultry’ cum Animal Health camp at Lalumpam village, Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya under Farmer’s First Project on 2nd February’ 2019. A total of 32 farmers from different villages (Lalumpam, Nalapara, Sarikhusi, Borkhatsari) have participated in the programme. They were made aware of importance of deworming and vaccination in livestock and poultry to prevent them from various parasitic, bacterial and viral diseases. They were also made aware of vaccination in pigs and poultry against various viral diseases viz. Swine Fever, Ranikhet disease, Fowl pox, Marek’s disease etc. Inputs in the form of veterinary medicines such as anthelmintics, vitamins and mineral supplements, antidiarrhoeal, antibiotics, acaricides, topical cream etc were distributed among the farmers. Pigs (192nos.), poultry (503nos.), ducks (14nos.) and rabbits (13nos.) were treated under this programme. In this occasion extension folder entitled ‘Deworming and Vaccination in Livestock and Poultry’; ‘Common Important Poultry Diseases and its Control’ and ‘Parasitic Diseases of Pigs’ in both English and Khasi language were also distributed among the farmers. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Meena Das (Senior Scientist), Ms Astha Barman (Senior Research Fellow), Ibanylla Swer (Field Assistant), L. Khongrymmai (Field Assistant) and Dr. R. Laha (Principal Scientist & PI, Farmer’s FIRST Project).
